How are CDs made?

How are CDs made

But first Did you know...

The first commercial CD album was released in Japan, in October 1982. It was Billy Joel with "52nd Street"

In 1985 the first CD single was manufactured, Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms" was released for promotional purposes in Germany to commemorate the band's 1985 European tour

CD-ROM stands for Compact Disc - Read-Only Memory. CD-R is Compact Disc-Recordable. CD-RW is Compact Disc Read/Write or ReWritable.

Originally designed to hold 60 minutes of music, CDs were later redesigned to hold 74 minutes in order to accommodate the entire "9th Symphony" by Beethoven.

FAULTY CDs
In proportion to the enormous quantities of CDs which are manufactured, faulty ones are extremely rare -- far far fewer than was the case with long-playing vinyl discs.
